In August 2019, Eric Mears, Mining Market Segment Leader, was invited to collaborate with the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) of the United States Geologic Survey to discuss the convergence of science and policy regarding how the Arizona State Geologic Survey (AZGS) helped advance aggregate protection efforts in the state. The NCGMP is the primary source of STATEMAP funds for the production of high-resolution geologic mapping in the United States.
In this presentation, Eric recommends changes to STATEMAP funding policies in order to generate additional funding in Arizona to produce innovative mapping projects which will help support aggregate protection efforts.
